Understanding Cedar in Niche Perfumery

Originating from Lebanon, Moroccan Atlas mountains and Virginia highlands, cedar embodies excellence of woody raw materials in traditional Grassoise perfumery. Its steam-distilled essential oil reveals dry, camphorated bouquet with deep resinous notes evoking millennia-old forests and timeless nobility. At Grasse Atelier, we use this precious wood alternately as persistent foundation (Lueur de Cèdre) or structuring accord balancing floral spices or powerful leather notes.

Very used in masculine and unisex fragrances, cedar is a refined note that strengthens longevity and balance of accords. In our range of 17 woody fragrances, it plays invisible but omnipresent role bringing density without heaviness, elegance without coldness. With our minimum concentrations of 20%, cedar notes persist exceptionally 10-14 hours on skin — far exceeding diluted commercial eau de toilets.
